In many ways, Dr. Harold Black is the founding father of dental sleep medicine in Savannah. During his long career, he has helped countless patients suffering from sleep disorders and obstructive sleep apnea. He was a charter member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, and his pioneering approach to dental sleep medicine has enabled him to develop longstanding consultative relationships with pulmonologists, neurologists and other physicians in Savannah who treat sleep disorders.
Dr. Black is a nationally renowned expert on dental sleep medicine and has been extensively involved with research that has shaped the practice of dental sleep medicine. He is a frequent speaker at oral health conferences, has co-authored several books and is affiliated with all three major hospitals in Savannah.
Dr. Black earned a bachelor’s degree from Emory University and a doctor of dental surgery degree from Emory University School of Dentistry. He has been practicing more than 50 years and is the secretary of medical and dental staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He is the co-chairman of dentistry for National Academies of Practice and national vice president of the National Association of Hospital Dentists.
